What Is The AS/NZS 61439 Standard?
Australia has recently updated the product standards which set out the requirements for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies (switchboards). The AS/NZS 3439 series will be superseded by the AS/NZS 61439 series. The AS/NZS 61439 is a new series of standards for low-voltage (LV) switchgear and control gear assemblies. This standard was adopted from the IEC 61439 with variations to adapt the standard to suit Australia and New Zealand conditions.
Why Use The AS/NZS 61439 Standard?
Complying with this standard, we can guarantee security and reliability of our switchboards, preventing damages provoked by an electrical failure. Therefore, applying the AS/NZS 61439 in the design of every switchboard we can ensure the quality of our products and prevent electrical issues. Power system reliability begins by ensuring that the performance of the electrical assemblies used to manage the energy within the network is predictable under normal and abnormal circumstances.
When Does AS/NZS 61439 Come Into Effect?
AS/NZS 61439 will supersede AS/NZS 3439 in May 2021. There has been a 5 year transitional period beginning after the standard was introduced in May, 2016. The transition has allowed Manufacturers time to transit to full compliance with the new standard. Until that time (May 2021), switchboards can be compliant according to AS/NZS 3439 or AS/NZS 61439.MPE Custom Switchboards went through the testing process and now all our main switchboards are type tested under the AS/NZS 61439 to ensure the best quality to our customers.
